This morning I am reminded of the beauty of autumn. As I gaze out my window from the couch, I see the corn plants, nearly orange, ready to be plucked for silage. My flowers are losing their shimmer, and I think of it’s time for mums and kale and grasses. The trees are starting to turn, more brown than orange this year because of the lack of rain, and yet they still retain beauty. I am reminded, as we head into the fall that “to everything, there is a season, and a time for every purpose under Heaven.”
Right now, there is so much unrest in parts of the world. I guess that democracy works that way, as countries new to the concept learn what does and does not work. Our country had it’s own learning curve.
I hope that these other countries can settle down as we move out of one season and into another. “A time to kill, a time to heal.” I pray for their healing and our own healing, as witnesses to the atrocities of the world. “A time of war… A time of peace, I swear it’s not too late.”
Turn, Turn, Turn
Words-adapted from The Bible, book of Ecclesiastes
Music-Pete Seeger
To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven
A time to build up,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together
To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven
A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing
To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late
