Finding Joy in Teaching Yoga

It has been nearly two years since I began my teacher training as a yoga instructor. What joy these past years have brought me!

I am being trained through YogaFit teacher training. I am working toward my 200 hours so I can be certified through Yoga Alliance, which is a national yoga teacher certification program.

“Unbelievable” is the word that applies to teaching yoga! I come from a 20+ year career of teaching elementary kids and working with state and federal programs in a school district. I gave up long days, high stress, and generally distractable students for short workdays, super-decreased stress, and enthusiastic students. Need I say more?

The reward for me has been several-fold. First of all, I am practicing delicious yoga 12-13 hours a week. Second, the health benefits of my physical body (leaner outside body, healthier internal organs), mental body (decreased stress), and spiritual body (increased moments of enlightenment) cannot compare to any job I have ever worked. Third, my schedule is my own. I decide when I want to teach. Fourth, I am still teaching, which is my true vocation. I am often told by my yogi students that my classes are special because I incorporate the learning process into them. The students walk away understanding their bodies better after class.

As I reflect on the past two years, I could not imagine then where I would be at this time of my life. I am thrilled for the turn in my life, andI am excited to think what the future will hold for me. Truly Blessed!
